Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 (February 27, 2010 Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. Many people who don't know the name mistakenly believe that"the" West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive expansion, she outgrew every one of her dance partners. She admitted in an article published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. When I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. Some former dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school who encouraged her to go to take the next step. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she play a character in the annual school production. This led to being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 shows on big screens and smaller ones. Her most significant fame when she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
